Start with accurate information and one manageable channel. A small church does not need to publish everywhere; it needs to help people understand who it serves, find reliable updates and make contact.
Write down three questions a visitor might ask: Where and when do you meet? What activities are available? Who can answer a question? Build your first pages and posts around these answers. Use plain language that a newcomer can understand without knowing your organisation.
A simple website can bring together an introduction, service times, an overview of activities and a contact route. Publish only location details that your leadership has agreed are appropriate to share. Use a contact address monitored by the organisation rather than exposing a volunteer’s private details.
Begin with one social channel your community already uses. Plan an announcement, a useful explanation and a community update each week if your team can maintain that rhythm. Assign one person to prepare content and another to approve it; agree who corrects outdated details.
Ask permission before featuring identifiable people or personal stories. Be especially careful with children and anyone whose circumstances are sensitive. Use individual account access where available and protect important accounts with two-step verification. The NCSC offers practical guidance for small organisations on securing accounts.
Confirm your organisation’s name and contact route, prepare a short introduction, check times and links on a phone, and assign responsibility for updates. Measure whether people find the information they need, not just how many followers you gain. A clear first step is more useful than a large website nobody can maintain.
