Clear writing helps people understand your purpose and decide whether to contact you. Begin with the reader’s questions rather than a long organisational history or a list of broad ambitions.
A useful opening names the people you serve, explains the practical help available and gives the next step. For example: ‘We help local community groups prepare clear website information. Tell us what you need to communicate.’ Adapt the wording to your genuine service rather than copying claims that do not apply.
Instead of ‘We empower everyone through innovation’, explain a specific activity: preparing a CV, improving a website page or learning a basic digital task. Distinguish your current work from future plans. If you cannot support a numerical claim with evidence, leave it out.
Use a descriptive heading, short paragraphs and a few meaningful subheadings. Explain unfamiliar terms the first time you use them. Keep the main answer visible near the top, then add detail for readers who need it.
A training page should lead to a training enquiry; a service page should lead to the relevant service or plan. Tell readers what information you need and what happens next. Avoid promises of immediate replies unless your team can reliably deliver them.
Ask a reader to explain the page back to you: who is it for, what is available and what should they do next? Their answers reveal unclear wording. Improve the explanation before adding more text. Useful content should serve your intended audience, consistent with Google’s people-first content guidance.
